Library Monitors:
Our grade 6 & 7 library monitors are key to this whole library operation, and their service and dedication is greatly appreciated!
Normally, Grade 7's have an opportunity to help from October to January, and the grade 6's from late January to June. I'll ask for volunteers when the time approaches. Our library needs your help! So you want to be a Library Monitor?Wonderful! Volunteering builds character, helps the library operate more efficiently, and you may even have fun doing it! Positions will be assigned once I see how many students are interested in helping.
What does a Library Monitor Do? |

Characteristics of a good Library Monitor:
Is responsible. Is on time. Tries their best.
Is a good role model to younger students and other library users. Has good alphabetizing skills. Is willing to ask for help when uncertain. If they need to miss a shift because of other appointments/ commitments/ absences, will be responsible and let Mr. Kit know & reschedule. |
Library Monitor Schedule
Students normally work in groups of 3-5 students, from 3:00-3:10/3:15 afterschool.
Each group usually works once every 2-3 weeks. The schedule is made to work around any school extracurricular activities, or shifts can be changed if there's a conflict. |
Training
Prospective Library Monitors undergo a mandatory 40-45 minute in-person group training session. The training dates will be posted when the time comes. Students who cannot attend a particular training date must reschedule for one of the other available dates. Potential Library Monitors are also required to do the following fun online book shelving activity below. Focus on the "Fiction" section, don't worry about the "Dewey" books. |
